Recently, we discussed materials,
some of our friends
asked about ASTM, so today we will try to know about ASTM.
ASTM
A group of scientists and engineers, led by Charles Dudley, formed ASTM in 1898 Originally called the "American Society for Testing Materials".
In 1902, it became the "American Society for Testing and Materials" in 1961 before it changed its name to “ASTM International” and in 2001, added the tagline "Standards Worldwide". In 2014, it changed the tagline to "Helping our World Work better". Now, ASTM International has offices in Belgium, Canada,

ASTM
PURPOSE OF ASTM
: Basically, Its purpose was to address and prevent the frequent rail breaks and creating standards for steel in the railroad industry.that were plaguing the industry, by developing standards that would ensure higher quality rail products. Today, the American Society for Testing and Materials is known as ASTM International. It consists of over 30,000 members across the entire world.those are the product users, producers, consumers, academics, and consultants.
ASTM develops and publishes technical standards for many different industries with the goal of enhancing performance and safety on a wide range of products, materials, systems, and services. Each standard falls into different categories including Thousands of ASTM standards that are upheld all over the world, each with their own unique number. Each standard falls into a variety of categories which include:

Terminology Standard
Standard designations usually consist of a letter prefix and a sequentially assigned number. This may optionally be followed by a dash and the last two digits of the year in which the standard was adopted. Prefix letters correspond to the following subjects:
ASTM
A = Iron and Steel Materials
A = Iron and Steel Materials
B = Nonferrous Metal Materials
C = Ceramic, Concrete, and Masonry Materials
D = Miscellaneous Materials
E = Miscellaneous Subjects
F = Materials for Specific Applications
G = Corrosion, Deterioration, and Degradation of Materials
