Welding Positions
Welding positions have particular importance in the welding operation. Different welding positions are used at different job locations according to the site facilities.
It varies slightly in plate and pipe welding positions, it can be classified as follows.
Plate:-
1- Flat position 1F
In this welding position, Plates are placed that the weld is deposited with its axis horizontal & its throat will be vertical.2-Horizontal Position 2F:-
In this welding position, Plates are placed that the weld is deposited with its axis horizontal onthe upper side of the horizontal surface and against the vertical
surface.
3-Vertical Position 3F
In this welding position, Plates are placed that the weld is deposited with its axis vertical4-Overhead Position 4F
In this welding position, Plates are placed that the weld is deposited with its axis horizontal on
1-Flat Position 1G
In this welding position, the Pipe with its axis is horizontal and rolled during welding so that the weld metal is deposited from above.
2-Horizontal Position 2G
In this welding position, the Pipe with its axis vertical and the axis of weld in a horizontal plane.
The pipe shall not be rotated during welding.
3-Multiple Position 5G
In this welding position, the Pipe with its axis horizontal and the welding groove in a vertical plane.
4-Multiple Position 6G
In this welding position, the Pipe with its axis inclined at 45०to horizontal. Welding shall be done
without rotating the pipe.
without rotating the pipe.
5- Multiple position 6GR ( Restriction )
Welding position, 6 GR is nothing else but the same test with a restriction plate on one side of the weld, around the circumference of the pipe, to restrict the angle of the electrode or filler wire in the weld groove. 6 GR is inclined to a 45-degree angle. The purpose of this position is to make the most difficult weld position for certification tests.
